چکیده

The hepatoprotective activity of ethanolic extract of Wedelia calendulacea L. (Family: Asteraceae) 4 was studied against CCl induced, acute hepatotoxicity in rats. Hepatoprotective activity of the ethanolic-leaf extract of W.calendulacea (EEWC) was studied by estimating serum enzyme activities of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), protein and bilirubin. 4 The treatment with EEWC showed a dose-dependent reduction of CCl induced elevated serum levels of enzyme activities with parallel increase in total protein and bilirubin, indicating the extract could preserve the normal functional status of the liver. The weight of the organs such as liver, heart, lung, spleen and kidney in 4 4 CCl induced experimental animals administered with EEWC showed an increase over CCl control group.

Antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of Artemisia dracunculus against CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in rats

Objective: The present study was conducted to investigate the antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity of the hydro-alcoholic extract of aerial parts of Artemisia dracunculus (HAAD) against CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Materials and Methods: The antioxidant activity was evaluated by reducing power, 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2, 20-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulf...

Neuroprotective activity of Wedelia calendulacea on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion induced oxidative stress in rats

OBJECTIVE This study was undertaken to evaluate the neuroprotective activity of Wedelia calendulacea against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion induced oxidative stress in the rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS The global cerebral ischemia was induced in male albino Wistar rats by occluding the bilateral carotid arteries for 30 min followed by 1 h and 4 h reperfusion. At various times of reperfusion, the...

Hepatoprotective effects of Taiwan folk medicine: wedelia chinensis on three hepatotoxin-induced hepatotoxicity.

The hepatoprotective effects of a Taiwanese crude herb, Hwang-hua-mih-tsay (Wedelia chinensis (Osbeck) Merr.), were investigated. Acute hepatitis was induced by three hepatotoxins: carbon tetrachloride and acetaminophen in mice, and D(+)-galactosamine in rats. After treatment with W. chinensis (300 mg/kg, p.o.) at 2, 6 and 10 hours, a reduction in the elevation of serum glutamate oxaloacetic tr...

Hepatoprotective effect of coumestans isolated from the leaves of Wedelia calendulacea Less. in paracetamol induced liver damage.

Effect of coumestans isolated form the leaves of W. calendulacea was evaluated in paracetamol induced liver damage. The increased serum enzyme levels (lactate dehydrogenase, alanine and aspartate transaminase and alkaline phophatase) by paracetamol induction were significantly lowered due to coumestans treatment. Results of this study revealed that coumestans of W. calendulacea afforded a signi...

Hepatoprotective Activity of Cichorium intybus L. Leaves Extract Against Carbon Tetrachloride Induced Toxicity

The effects of different concentrations of the hydroalcoholic extract of dried powdered leaves of Cichorium intybus L., on CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in vivo in rats and CCl4-induced cytotoxicity in isolated rat hepatocytes were investigated. Rats received different concentrations of the extract by i.p. injection for 3 consecutive days before the injection of (3ml/kg) CCl4 (i.p.). Twenty four ...
